International Short Film "Third Time Lucky" Chosen to Premiere at Chicago South Asian Film

Akshun Abhimanyu's newest short film, Third Time Lucky, has been chosen to showcase at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival on September 19th, 2019 at 8:30 p.m. at Chicago's Showplace Icon Theater.

Nicole Dambro stars alongside Akshun Abhimanyu in his latest short film, "Third Time Lucky"

Directed by Saraswathi Balgam, the film's synopsis describes it as, "A journey of a young boy as he goes through life witnessing domestic violence and sexual abuse, until he finally gets the courage to take a stand." Based on true events, it depicts the impact of social injustice on an innocent child. Executive Producer Vijay Patil calls it "a truly international film - produced in Hollywood."

In the film, Nicole Dambro plays Abhimanyu's latest love interest, who struggles to maintain their relationship as Abhimanyu's character spirals deeper into an emotional depression triggered by his past trauma.

This isn't the first time Abhimanyu's original films have garnered recognition -- his last film, 7 Rounds, explored racism surrounding a group of muslims in a bar during the muslim ban, and was chosen to premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2018. Because of its strong message and unique viewpoint, Abhimanyu and Balgam hope this latest film enjoys a similar path of recognition and awareness.

Third Time Lucky was produced by A-Squared Productions & Magnum Independent Pictures, in association with Hope B~Lit and Voices Unheard Films.
